Earl Shilton Town Council’s ultimate aim is to be transparent in all its financial activities. We are required to adhere to Financial Regulations which are reviewed annually by Council and based on nationally agreed guidelines issued by Government. Our Financial Regulations can be found here: Financial Regulations .
Annual budgets (The Precept) are discussed at committee level and approved at a Full Council meeting ideally in January for the following financial year. Note: the Borough Council Finance Dept do not usually notify town and parish councils of the 'taxbase' figure until late December. The taxbase figure is key to calculating the overall Town Council Precept as it shows the number of new homes paying council tax. The budget/precept is designed to enable Earl Shilton Town Council to deliver its services which centre around our Parks and Cemetery.
Our funding comes mainly from an amount called the precept that is charged on council taxpayers in the Town. A precept demand is submitted to Government via Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, following the setting of the budget by a voted resolution of members of the Town Council, in January each year.
For the financial year 2019/20 the precept is £271,579 and the cost of services to a normal Band D property in Earl Shilton is £86.19p per year.
Details of our 2019/20 precept, showing previous years for comparison, can be found here: Precept Financial Year 2019/20.
For the financial year 2020/21 the precept is £279,047 and the cost of services to a normal Band D property in Earl Shilton is £87.91 for the year and a 2% increase from the previous year shown above.
Details of our 2020/21 precept, in the form of a letter including comparison tables and explanations, may be found at this link: Precept Financial Year 2020/2021.
