Consultations launched: Local Plan, Earl Shilton SUE and extended date for the Hinckley National Rail Freight

Dear resident

We wanted to let you know about a number of current consultations that you are invited to give your views on.

Local Plan
You are invited to give your views on the pre-submission version of the Hinckley and Bosworth Local Plan, the key planning document for the borough that will guide future development in Hinckley and Bosworth up to 2039. It sets out a preferred strategy for housing and economic growth and includes a number of planning policies covering a range of issues such as conserving and enhancing the natural and historic environment, sustainable transport, good design and responding to the challenges of climate change. The policies will be used to guide development and respond to economic, environmental and social issues within the borough.

Members of the public and businesses are invited to attend virtual events where planning officers will answer questions, discuss views and provide advice on how to submit comments. For further details on the consultation and to book at place at an event go to

As well as being available to view and download on the website, printed copies of the document will be located at selected libraries within the borough and at the Hinckley Hub. The consultation is open until 5pm on 23 March 2022.

Earl Shilton Sustainable Urban Development (SUE) site
Housebuilders Bloor Homes and Jelson Homes have submitted an outline planning application to the Borough Council for up to 1,000 homes along with a new primary school, new employment land, a community hub and play and open space as part of the Earl Shilton SUE site.
This application represents approximately two thirds of the existing allocated SUE site in the Council’s Local Plan.  The whole SUE site is earmarked for 1,600 homes along with employment land, a primary school, community hub and play and open space in the Council’s Earl Shilton and Barwell Area Action Plan.

To comment go to entering application reference 21/01511/OUT. Anyone without internet access can view the plans and submit their comments by visiting the Hinckley Hub; by email: or in writing to The Planning Department (Development Management), The Hub, Rugby Road, LE10 0FR. Please include the application reference number your comments relate to and your address.  Deadline: Friday 11 March 2022.

Hinckley National Rail Freight Interchange - extended consultation date
Tritax Symmetry’s consultation on their Rail Freight Interchange proposals has been extended to Friday 8 April 2022.  Information can be found at or via the Community Information line on 0844 556 3002.

The Borough Council and Blaby District Council are statutory consultees and will not be deciding the application and any comments or questions should be directed to Tritax Symmetry representatives. Due to the size of the proposed development, it is classed as a “Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project” and any decision will be made by the Secretary of State for Transport.

We hope you find this email of interest.

Best wishes
